The ability to split protein from hide early in the process creates a natural source of collagen that is ideal for refinement, and reduces the need amount for chromium chemicals in further processing of the hide. The collagen can then be preserved, and used in products such as sausage casings. Due to production demand, it is clear there is a need to explore even more higher value options for collagen.
