Looking Ahead: Colour + Trends
Looking ahead to 2021-22 leather trends, the search for quality and need for sustainability leads to natural resources coming out on top. Leather, a material known for its long-lasting properties, in an elegant design, continues to trend. Tasman Leathers of New Zealand expects to see either neutral palettes or bright and bold with varying finishes for contrast. The timeless natural and vintage leather trend stays, of course, as, after all, it is a classic, timeless look.
#1: Neutral Colours:
Neutral colours such as; beige, ivory, grey, shades of white, brown, and soft pink feature throughout providing the opportunity for other features to pop.

#2 Bold + Bright Leather
With 2020 soon ending, consumers will be looking for a little bit of joy in their life after the “year that was”. We’re expecting to see bold and bright leather feature as a way of brightening the world!

#3 Leather Finishes
There is a trend towards the use of texture and finishes on leather such as glazing, embossing and spraying, particularly the use of metallics in handbags and footwear. The metallic look will elevate designs and outfits with an elegant finish.
According to B Samply glossy leather is picked to trend as consumers will look for “all out” expression for 21/22 and will be looking for extravagant designs. Consequently, the motto will be “more is more” instead of opting for “less is more”. One “more is more” trend will be using a smooth waxy finish on leather to give a more futuristic look. Expect to see this trend in footwear, ready-to-wear and accessories.
#4 Natural “vintage” leather.
Featuring warm, rich browns, in a natural look, vintage leather remains a timeless must have. The beauty of imperfection suggests a story of time gone by, while the long-lasting nature of leather means items like sofas and furniture will provide comfort for years to come.
